Brief Encounters was launched in 1997 offer new artists their first solo shows.

The first Brief Encounter featured the work of Clare Thompson from Cardiff, Wales, who produced intricate casts of objects with sellophane tape.

Since then we have shown a number of artists from across the UK including Reiko Aoyagi, Miyako Narita, Mark Williams and Barry Reigate.

By 1999 a number of new galleries had emerged on the London art scene who, like 97-99, realised the need to work with new artists. But Brief Encounters remains the only programme dedicated to promoting new artists in the UK.

Brief Encounters continues into 2000 with more new graduates and will extend its search beyond the UK.
