IMKER is a collaborative project by two artists, Pierre Imhof and Ingrid Kerma. Pierre Imhof was born in Fribourg, Switzerland, and Ingrid Kerma in Berlin. Both currently live and work in London. The IMKER Project began in 1994. The name is formed from the first syllables of their surnames, which means "bee-keeper" in German. The IMKER project raises interesting questions about authorship and identity in art. Kerma and Imhof see IMKER as a totally separate artist, independent of their individual art practice. Often working on the canvas at the same time, they produce paintings that are more than the sum of each artistÕs contribution and distinct from the work of either artist in style. As individual artists Pierre Imhof and Ingrid Kerma have had numerous exhibitions in Europe, the US and South America. IMKERÕs work has been shown in Switzerland and Brazil. 97-99 will present IMKER for the first time in London in April 2000 as part of Fresh paint, the gallery's painting programme. |
