ÔSuÕ (ÔNestÕ) Mud house in an office building in Kanda, Tokyo (1999 -)

The main element of ÒSuÓ is a three dimensional curved wall made of ochre mud. It is internally supported by a steel rod and a steel mesh structure and extends over 10 metres. Kanda ÒSuÓ makes reference to the traditional Japanese concept of the home as a meditative space. People can sit on the wooden floor and lean against the dry earth wall. Kanda ÒSuÓ is both Tono MiraiÕs home, as well as a free event space open to the public. It was constructed by himself and his staff as a workshop project; over thirty people helped to plaster the wall with mud. Various events are planned to activate further community participation in the future.
