Keiko Miyata is a artist from Tokyo who creates monster sized, not so cuddly toys. Initially graduating in painting, her fascination with soft toys began when she was employed as a stuffed toy designer. Miyata's animals vary in size and personality, from the ultra-kitsch, such as 'super lucky' and 'super happy', to menacing pokemon-esque creatures, such as 'Silent Violence'. 'Age 3' already dwarfs the average human being, standing at nine feet tall, and still growing. Miyata has had many shows in Japan, including 'Tokyo Pop' at Hiratsuka Museum of Art, and A*MUSE*LAND at the Hokkaido Museum of Art. Her show at Alfred Camp/97-99 in July 2000 was her first showing outside Japan.
